There was a king of Alwar district in Rajasthan, whose name was Maharaja Jai Singh Prabhakar. An interesting anecdote related to these Maharajas is very famous. It is said that in order to teach a lesson to a luxury car maker named Rolls Royce, these kings bought many new vehicles and put them to use for carrying garbage.
This anecdote dates back to around 1920, when Maharaja Jai Singh was in London. Once upon a time, he did not wear the dress of the king and went to visit London in simple clothes. While roaming in London, his sight fell on the Rolls Royce showroom. A luxury car was parked inside this showroom, which the king liked very much, then he went inside the showroom to see it. But that king was in ordinary clothes, so the employees of that showroom did not recognize him and asked him to leave the showroom knowing him to be some poor person.
The king felt very bad about this contemptuous treatment done to him and this thing pierced his heart. Then he decided that he would take revenge of this insult from 'Rolls Royce'. So then Maharaja Jai Singh Prabhakar again went inside the 'Rolls Royce' showroom in his king's dress. The employees of the showroom were informed in advance that the Maharaja of Alwar was coming to buy a vehicle from this showroom, so those employees gave Raja Jai Singh a very warm welcome. Without wasting his time, the king ordered to buy several cars of 'Rolls Royce' at once.
It is said that the king had bought all those vehicles by paying cash. All the employees of the showroom were very happy because today they got such a big order. But, those employees did not know what Maharaja Jai Singh was going to do with these royal vehicles. They were thinking that the king liked their cars very much, so they bought them. After this, as soon as the vehicles reached India, Maharaja Jai Singh gave all these vehicles to the municipality and also ordered them that from today only garbage lifting work will be done in these vehicles.
When the king gave such an order to the municipality, then after this everyone started making fun of 'Rolls Royce' vehicles. People did not like to buy these, everyone used to think that why should we buy such vehicles in which the people of India carry garbage. It is said that later this company wrote an apology letter to Raja Jaisingh and also apologized to him for such bad behavior done by its employees. Along with this, he also requested that the work of collecting garbage from the vehicles of Rolls Royce Company should be stopped.
Maharaja Jai Singh accepted this request of the company and forgave it, as well as he stopped the work of collecting garbage from these vehicles. This work of Maharaja Jai Singh gives a good lesson to such people who identify human beings by their clothes when you do not identify a man by his clothes. It is also not right to despise a poor person, we should not make distinctions like poor rich high and low.
